ROBOTIC SECURITY

From inception, Southern Cross Electronic Security has maintained a commitment to delivering the most advanced security technology on the market. As part of this commitment, we have spent several years working closely alongside leading technologists within the field of robotics to develop ‘Bunda’ – our very own robotic security guard.

Named in honour of the traditional custodians of the Sydney region, the Gadigal word ‘Bunda’ translates to ‘Hawk’. This title was carefully selected for our robot who, like a hawk, possesses visual capacities that far exceed that of the human eye.

Bunda is equipped with four cameras – three surveillance cameras and one facial recognition camera – affording it the ability to record 360-degree vision of our clients’ premises at any given time. These images are processed through Bunda’s advanced video-analytic software and sent via live-feed to Southern Cross Electronic Security 24/7 Control Room, where our qualified Operators are on hand to provide an additional monitoring service.

Standing at almost 140cm in height and moving at approximately 4kmph (with the ability to reach speeds of up to 14kmph), Bunda has been programmed to perform all of the duties you would expect from a traditional security officer.

Bunda can follow pre-defined patrol parameters or generate its own patrol routes via laser radar. In performing a patrol, Bunda will automatically create and record highly detailed patrol reports.

If an incident should occur, Bunda is equipped with the capacity to sound an alarm and issue a range of deterrents (such as flashing lights or loudspeaker announcements).

Moreover, if an individual on site requires emergency assistance, Southern Cross Electronic Security Control Room Operators can immediately communicate with them via Bunda’s video-chat function.

WHY UTILISE ROBOTICS?

Though robot technology will likely never eliminate the need for human guards, utilising Bunda undoubtedly has many advantages:
  • Bunda is equipped with advanced visual software that allows it to perform real-time, 360-degree analyses of its environment. Moreover, Bunda’s facial recognition technology can immediately identify the face of a suspect or flagged individual that has been entered into its database (removing much of the error associated with relying on human memory alone).
  • In hazardous situations (such as fire or a violent incident), Bunda can be sent in to investigate or serve as a deterrent – eliminating much of the risk to health and safety associated with human intervention.
  • Bunda does not get sick – if a guard must leave their post at short notice due to illness, Bunda is always available to step in.
  • Bunda does not fatigue. When you employ Bunda, you are guaranteed a consistently exceptional level of service that is unaffected by drowsiness, hunger, or the body’s circadian rhythms (which regulate the sleep-wake cycle in human guards).
